The San Diego Broadway station provides a central bay reference for downtown piers, naval and commercial channels, bay fishing, beaches, kelp, and offshore departures.
Boaters, anglers, and shoreline users check it for bay depth, launch and dock access, current stage, tide-pool timing, and the local high-low cycle.
The bay entrance, beaches, and kelp can experience different current and wave conditions from downtown. Include swell, afternoon wind, and vessel traffic.
A high or low prediction describes the expected water level at the gauge. Current can turn earlier or later in a nearby inlet, river, bridge opening, pass, or channel. NOAA publishes separate current predictions for supported locations, and local weather can move the observed level above or below the astronomical prediction.
