Mobile application
The iOS and Android app does not require an Outgoing Tide account. When you choose Use my location and grant permission, your coordinates are used on your device to sort nearby stations. The app does not save those device coordinates or send them to our station-search service. You can search manually and revoke location permission in device settings. Requests for selected public stations and map areas contain the location information needed to obtain conditions; service providers also receive technical connection information such as your IP address.
The app stores preferences, saved stations, fish-detail choices, downloaded tide charts, notification settings, the accepted Terms version, and access/Preview records on the device. Access records include a random installation identifier and timing information. Some records use operating-system protected storage and may survive reinstall depending on the platform. Shake-motion input is used locally for a navigation gesture. Notifications and background refresh are optional; permission and operating-system limits affect delivery. These functions do not require a remote notification account.
Mobile advertising and privacy choices
Free and Pro Preview can display Google Mobile Ads banners and interstitials. We use Google's User Messaging Platform to determine whether ads may be requested and to show applicable consent and privacy choices. App ad requests are configured as non-personalized. This does not mean no information is processed: Google may receive IP-derived approximate location, app/device identifiers, ad impressions and interactions, and diagnostic and performance information for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. The Android app blocks the Advertising ID permission. Paid Pro removes in-app ads. When Google requires a privacy-options entry point, Ad privacy choices is available in the app's About area.
The native app's own entitlement event logger writes limited diagnostic events to the device console; it is not a separate remote analytics service. Google advertising SDK measurement and technical service logs still apply. Website Google Analytics and AdSense behavior described below is separate from native app behavior.
Our AdMob account has publisher first-party IDs enabled. Its app analytics connection and user-insight surveys are off, and neither mobile app is linked to Firebase. We use the default AdMob network rather than configured third-party waterfall mediation. AdMob can serve demand from its authorized buyers; this does not mean that only Google receives advertising-related information. Our app's non-personalized request setting and applicable privacy choices still apply.
Subscriptions and technical services
Apple or Google handles purchase payment, billing, renewals, cancellation and store-account information. Outgoing Tide does not receive payment-card details. The app queries current store entitlements and offers Restore purchases. A new eligible installation may receive a seven-calendar-day app-managed Pro Preview that does not charge or renew. Store introductory offers are separate. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Our Google Play subscription backend receives store event notifications and verifies purchase state with Google. It retains hashed purchase-chain identifiers, subscription lifecycle status and event summaries for reliability and reconciliation; it does not determine the app's current Pro access. Raw purchase tokens are processed to verify events, but are not stored in that database or intentionally written to application logs. Database event records expire after 90 days; current subscription snapshots expire 90 days after their last update. Expiry uses asynchronous database deletion, so removal is not instantaneous. The backend's default operational log bucket retains records for 30 days; infrastructure and vendor records may follow separate retention settings.
App conditions and map services include NOAA/NWS, Open-Meteo through our Google Cloud proxy, OpenFreeMap/OpenStreetMap-related map services, and species-image providers such as Wikipedia/Wikimedia. ZIP lookup uses GeoNames. Expo services deliver app updates. Requests can disclose an IP address, device/software information and the selected station or map area to the relevant service. These providers process information under their own policies.
Mobile data requests
You can remove saved app content using available settings or device app-data controls. Protected storage and store purchase history may survive uninstall; store records are controlled by Apple or Google. For access, correction or deletion requests concerning records we control, email support@outgoingtide.com. We may need information to identify the relevant record, and may retain information where required for legal compliance, security or dispute resolution. Never email passwords, full payment-card details or raw purchase tokens.
Website information we handle
Information you provide
You may provide your name, email address, selected topic, comments, station-request details, or launch-list email address. When you submit the website contact form or launch-list form, that information is transmitted to Brevo and stored in an Outgoing Tide Brevo contact list so we can respond to your request or deliver the requested launch notification. Station-request links elsewhere on the website may prepare an email addressed to support@outgoingtide.com; that information is transmitted only if you send the prepared email from your email application.
Location and station information
If you allow location access, your browser provides coordinates so we can identify nearby tide stations and center weather, radar, and marine-condition views. Your selected station and related preferences may be stored locally on your device. You can deny or revoke location permission through your browser or device settings and search for a station manually.
Browser and service data
Like most websites, our hosting provider and third-party data services may automatically receive technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, request time, and referring page. Outgoing Tide uses browser storage for theme, station, and filter preferences. We use Google Analytics to understand visits and improve the service, and Google AdSense may deliver or measure advertising after you interact with the page. These services may collect page views, ad interactions, session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, and identifiers stored in cookies or similar browser storage.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may place and read cookies or use web beacons, IP addresses, and similar identifiers as a result of ad serving. They may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to Outgoing Tide or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve personalized ads based on those visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. If Outgoing Tide enables other third-party ad vendors or ad networks, those providers may also use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Their identities and available opt-out choices will be disclosed here or through the privacy and consent controls presented on the site.
Our Analytics events may record a successful launch-list signup or contact-form submission, an App Store or Google Play click and its platform, or the public station selected through station search. We do not include email addresses, contact-form contents, raw station-search text, or precise device coordinates in these Analytics events.
How we use information
We use information to:
- provide tide, weather, swell, water-temperature, radar, and station features;
- remember your selected station, display theme, and interface preferences;
- respond to questions, feedback, and support requests;
- send the app-launch notification you requested;
- maintain security, diagnose errors, and improve the service; and
- comply with applicable law and protect the rights and safety of users and Outgoing Tide.
Third-party services
Outgoing Tide retrieves, displays, or processes information using services that may include NOAA/NWS, Open-Meteo, OpenFreeMap, OpenMapTiles, OpenStreetMap, Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Zippopotam for ZIP-code coordinates, Wikipedia for optional species images, Brevo for contact-form processing, launch-list management, and email delivery, and Google reCAPTCHA for contact-form and launch-list abuse prevention. Website fonts are served directly by Outgoing Tide. Open-Meteo weather and marine requests are relayed through Outgoing Tide where supported so the commercial API credential is not sent to your browser; the interactive weather map may also request public forecast data directly from Open-Meteo. When your browser or Outgoing Tide connects to an external provider, that provider may receive technical request data and the information needed to provide the requested service, and it may apply its own privacy policy. External conservation and regulation links take you to websites we do not control.
When information may be shared
We do not sell personal information. We may share information with vendors that host or operate the service, when you direct us to do so, to comply with legal obligations, to protect users or the service, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. Service providers process information to operate the service; advertising and analytics providers may also process information under their own policies and the choices available to you.
Verified service retention settings
For our website Google Analytics property, event data retention is set to two months and user data retention to fourteen months. The user-data period resets on new activity. These controls cover data associated with identifiers and do not govern most aggregated standard reports. Google signals and user-provided data collection are off. Granular city-level location/device collection and the property setting allowing ads personalization are enabled; enabled settings do not by themselves establish that a particular advertising integration is active.
Brevo transactional email logs are kept for one month for all senders. New transactional email previews are not stored. Those settings do not delete contact records or launch-list subscriptions. Support email messages in our support mailbox are retained for 30 days. Brevo contact records are stored separately and are not automatically deleted by our contact-form workflow. Our contact-form workflow sends the submitted name, email address, topic and message to support@outgoingtide.com. Brevo's per-contact pixel-tracking consent setting is off, so email opens and clicks may be tracked without a separate per-contact tracking flag.
Retention and your choices
Local preferences remain in your browser until you clear site data or remove them. Information sent directly to us may be retained only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and security. Contact-form and launch-list information may remain in Brevo until the response or notification purpose is complete or you ask us to remove it.
You can unsubscribe using a link included in a launch-list email or request removal through the contact page. You can also clear Outgoing Tide's browser storage, block location access, use browser controls to limit cookies and other storage, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking some features may affect station selection, maps, saved preferences, or other functionality.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Outgoing Tide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The effective date above will change when revisions are posted. Material changes may also be announced through the service when appropriate.
