The Battery station is a central New York Harbor reference near the Hudson and East rivers, Upper Bay, major ferry routes, piers, and commercial shipping channels.
Its predictions support harbor water-level planning, waterfront access, fishing structure, vessel clearance, and coastal-flood context in one of the nation's busiest waterways.
The Hudson, East River, Kill Van Kull, and outer harbor have distinct currents and offsets. Never substitute The Battery high or low time for a current prediction in a separate channel.
A high or low prediction describes the expected water level at the gauge. Current can turn earlier or later in a nearby inlet, river, bridge opening, pass, or channel. NOAA publishes separate current predictions for supported locations, and local weather can move the observed level above or below the astronomical prediction.
