The Pensacola station provides the regional tide reference for Pensacola Bay, bayous, bridges, beaches, Pensacola Pass, marinas, and offshore access.
It supports bay fishing, ramp depth, bridge and shoreline planning, and understanding when water is rising or falling before a trip through the pass.
Northern Gulf tides can be strongly influenced by wind and weather. The pass can also be rough when swell or wind opposes current, regardless of predicted height.
A high or low prediction describes the expected water level at the gauge. Current can turn earlier or later in a nearby inlet, river, bridge opening, pass, or channel. NOAA publishes separate current predictions for supported locations, and local weather can move the observed level above or below the astronomical prediction.
